More Than a Photoshoot: An Experience Designed to Preserve Your Story

Preparing for your photoshoot doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. In fact, the best sessions happen when things feel natural, relaxed, and true to you.

Whether you’re planning a family session, a couples shoot, or portraits, this guide will help you feel confident going into your session so you can focus less on doing everything right and more on being present in the moment. Because at the end of the day, that’s what your photos will reflect.

Start with the Feeling, Not Just the Look

Before choosing outfits or locations, think about how you want your photos to feel. Warm and playful, calm and connected, or romantic and intimate. When you lead with feeling instead of perfection, everything else naturally falls into place.

What to Wear (and What to Avoid)

Your outfits should complement each other, not match exactly. Stick to a cohesive color palette with soft, neutral, or earthy tones like creams, tans, muted blues, soft greens, or warm browns. These tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus on you.

Flowy fabrics, layers, and subtle textures add movement and depth to your images.

Avoid neon colors, large logos, busy patterns, or anything stiff and uncomfortable. If you feel good in what you’re wearing, it will show.

Preparing Kids (Without the Stress)

Kids don’t need to be perfect for your photos to be meaningful. Some of the most beautiful moments come from movement, laughter, and the in-between.

Make sure they’re fed before your session, bring a small non-messy snack, and talk about the session in a fun, positive way beforehand. Let them be themselves instead of forcing poses. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s connection.

What to Bring

Keep it simple but intentional. You might bring a neutral blanket, water and light snacks, comfortable walking shoes, and one meaningful item like a family heirloom or something personal.

What Not to Bring

Avoid phones in pockets, bulky bags, too many props, or anything distracting. We want your photos to feel timeless and focused on your connection.

Trust the Process

You don’t need to know how to pose or perform. I’ll guide you through natural movement and interaction so your photos feel effortless and genuine. Some of the best moments happen when you forget the camera is even there.

Timing Matters More Than You Think

Lighting plays a huge role in how your photos feel. Whenever possible, sessions are scheduled during golden hour when the light is soft and flattering. If your session happens earlier, I’ll guide you to locations with the best available light.

Be Present, Not Perfect

The most meaningful photos aren’t perfectly posed. They’re the ones where you’re laughing, holding each other, chasing your kids, or simply existing together in a moment that won’t happen the same way again.

Let’s Capture This Season of Your Life

No matter what this season looks like, your story deserves to be documented honestly and beautifully.
